THE BRIEF

With ZOO, we’ve covered ESB Networks Apprentice of the Year since 2022 and it keeps growing legs.

2022 was a straight highlights film.

2023 added live social capture across the day.

2024 brought the first, live stream, plus the social team running in parallel.

2025 went full broadcast. Commentary, VTs, live coverage across zones, and a winner film turned around on the day.

HOW WE SHOT IT

We scoped it as three active production days so the live day stayed clean.

June 23 captured apprentice interviews, action headshots, and group photos.

June 25 handled tech and logistics.

June 26 ran a live stream with commentary, four live camera feeds across the marquee and task zones, and on site edit for the winner film.

SCOPE

We designed the whole job around what could not fail: the live stream.

• Locked the VT structure in advance (Opening, About the Programme, The Tasks, Winner) to reduce live day risk.

• Committed to 3 active days (June 23, 25, 26) to protect the budget and the run of show.

• Scoped total budget, covering crew, equipment, travel, prep, and post.

SHOOT

We ran it like a broadcast, not a highlight grab.

• Built a live unit with Technical Director, live editor, sound, and four live camera operators.

• Covered presentation and tasks in parallel across the marquee, training field, and cable hall.

• Scheduled repeat footage drops through the day so edit stayed ahead of delivery.

SUPPORT

We kept one senior through line so delivery stayed fast and consistent.

• Kept the same editor involved throughout, including on site for the winner film.

• Delivered VTs to fixed runtimes (60s) so they could drop cleanly into the live schedule.
